Our group works to promote, protect and support breastfeeding in our local communities. It is our vision that breastfeeding once again becomes the cultural norm for infant feeding and that our communities will be healthier places when women and families are given the support they need and deserve. We believe that in order to achieve this mothers need access to accurate, timely information and support and a forum to connect with other moms; health care providers require sound evidence based information; and the community benefits from partnerships that assists them to create welcoming environments for breastfeeding families. Our group is comprised of breastfeeding women, health professionals, childbirth educators, doulas and community leaders. Each of us brings a unique and important perspective to the table. The voices of breastfeeding mothers and professionals are heard equally and “real” issues are brought to light. This spirit of mutual respect and shared vision is the strength of the Okanagan Breastfeeding Coalition.
